Ancient Roman terracotta oil lamp, 14 cm long, with a beaded Chi-Rho on the discus, 5th century A.D., in good condition with mineral deposits and base loss, provenance from a French auction house and former French private collection, includes authenticity certificate and Spanish export license, shipped with insurance.

Description from the seller

A fine late Ancient late roman mold-formed oil lamp with relief decoration. The lamp consists of an elongated, oval body and a circular discus surrounded by a ridge, which continues around the large nozzle hole to form a broad channel. At the top, a solid blade-shaped handle flattened on both sides. A circular ridge on the base extends in a straight line to the handle. On the discus, the main iconography is a beautifully moulded beaded Chi-Rho monogram, flanked on either side by small filling holes. The shoulder surrounding the discus bears a repeating pattern of vegetal motifs and concentric circles.

Dimensions: 14,00 cm

Condition: Mineral deposits on the base. Some material missing on the base. Good condition ( see pictures )

Provenance: French auction house. Formerly french private collection.
