Description from the seller
I propose, with no reserve price, a church holy-water bucket (or holy-water dipper) in repoussé bronze and brass dating from the mid-19th century (Neo-Gothic style). The handle and base are in bronze.
The repeated cartouches on the body of the vase gather the great symbols of the Old and New Testament:
The ears of corn: Eucharistic symbol (bread, the Body of Christ).
The Tablets of the Law: The Decalogue handed down to Moses (Old Testament).
The radiant Cross: Redemption and divine light.
The open book topped with a flaming heart: The Gospels / the word of God allied with charity and the Sacred Heart.
In Catholic ritual, this bucket was used by the priest to carry holy water during processions, outdoor blessings, or sprinkling ceremonies, funerals.
The object is in good condition with signs of age related to its use and antiquity: oxidation, light deformations, wear. The object is as shown in the photos.
Height 22 cm, with the handle about 33.5
Weight 806 g
Diameter 18.5 cm
