Tichelaar Makkum - Plate (2) - Ceramic - Delft-S.XVIII

The No. 1 Delft blue and white tin-glazed earthenware plate, traditionally known as waaierbord or peacock plate, features a highly stylized central design of a peacock’s tail over a vase surrounded by floral motifs and a characteristic ochre or yellow border.

The No. 2 plate is a peacock plate (waaierbord or pauwenbord) in blue and white earthenware, hand-decorated with a vase of flowers and peacock feathers in the traditional Dutch Delft or Makkum style. It shows a stylized vase from which peacock feathers and floral motifs emerge in cobalt blue tones.

Both plates were produced around 1880–1915 by the Tichelaar company of Makkum.
