Vintage cigarette box (or jewelry box) in 800 silver with an inner wooden lining.

This specific kind of object was extremely widespread in Italy from the 1930s (Art Deco period) until the middle of the 20th century, and was often used as an elegant table accessory to hold cigarettes, cigars or small valuables.

Main features of the object

Outer Material: 800 silver coating or cover (an alloy containing 80% pure silver and 20% copper), usually recognizable by the small punch imprinted on the edge or bottom.

Wood interior: The wood interior coating (often mahogany, briar or rosewood) was mainly used to protect the contents and, in the case of tobacco, to preserve the right degree of humidity.

Style: The linear, geometric and clean design of the metal part that can be seen on the raised lid recalls the Italian Art Deco vintage manufacture
