Description from the seller

Small mahogany chest of drawers, Georgian style

Object: small four-drawer chest / bedside chest

Style: Late Georgian / Georgian style, with continuity into the Victorian period
Material: mahogany, probably with pale secondary woods on the drawers
Dimensions: 69 × 45 × 33 cm

Small English chest with narrow vertical proportions, made of mahogany, featuring four overlaid drawers and a raised base on bracket-foot-style carved feet.

The rectangular top, slightly protruding relative to the case, features a upholstered edge, a very characteristic solution of English furniture inspired by Georgian.

The front is organized by four full-width drawers, framed by thin mouldings or cockbeading. Each drawer presents two circular turned wooden pulls.

The fronts show a warm dark mahogany tone, with a discreet horizontal grain. The absence of applied ornamentation gives the piece the simplicity and sobriety usually associated with 19th-century English domestic furniture.

The drawers have interiors in light wood, probably pine or another commonly used secondary wood in British carpentry.

The box is of fully straight lines, with smooth sides, ending in a molded base supported on four bracket feet, inwardly curved.

This association — mahogany, four drawers, molded top, turned pulls and bracket feet — is practically the classic formula of small English Georgian-style chests.

Condition: In a condition compatible with prolonged use.
