The Asahi Pentax SV of 1962 is the last and most refined of the pre-Spotmatic Pentax SLRs, adding a self-timer and an automatic-reset frame counter to the S3's fully coupled auto-diaphragm design. Its single-stroke lever wind, instant-return mirror and bright pentaprism made Asahi's cameras the model that much of the industry followed, and the M42 screw mount opened the door to a vast range of lenses. The Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 fitted here is a classic of its era — smooth-focusing, sharp and gently rendering, and still much loved for adaptation to digital bodies. Together they make a compact, all-mechanical outfit from the golden age of Japanese camera making.

Functional
The camera operates properly — see the measured shutter figures below (1/1.1 at 1s and 1/51 at 1/60 are accurate; the 1/1000 speed runs slow at about 1/411).
The Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 has been internally cleaned; focus and aperture operate smoothly.
The SV has no built-in meter (it predates TTL metering) — use an external meter or Sunny 16.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1.1 s (approx. 0.1 stop fast)
- 1/60 — measured 1/51 s (approx. 0.2 stop slow)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/411 s (approx. 1.3 stop slow)
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Known Issues
1. The top 1/1000 speed measured slow, at about 1/411 — treat it as roughly 1/500 in practice. The slower speeds are accurate.
2. Signs of use on the body consistent with its age (see photos).

We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.
