Léopold Eeckhaut - Dérive

Léopold attends classes from the Belgian artist Jo Delahaut who supports him in his artistic pursuit and gives him his solid foundational bases. He then discovers his passion for painting and subsequently studies charcoal drawing and advertising at the Académie du Midi. Various painting trainings will follow, notably at the Malou ateliers but also in the workshop of the artist Victoria Calleja.
If the sources of his inspiration are drawn from the repertoire of works by abstract artists, his titles, for their part, bring us back to a certain reality: Mask, Panic, The Family, Curiosity, Moonlight… His art oscillates between abstract and figurative with surprising and bold mixtures of colors.
His works are populated with faces, characters, and geometric shapes that he often repeats as motifs in his paintings. The artist uses charcoal, Conte crayon (soft pastels) as well as acrylic, which he works in various ways: directly with the bottle’s nozzle, using the tip of a pencil, or more traditionally with a brush.
Léopold not only plays with colors but also with textures thanks to this particular technique that is his own.
His studio in Rouge-Cloître is open every Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and during exhibitions such as Chaussée des Arts.
