Coin of 5 Sen with the left-facing bust of President Sukarno on the obverse, accompanied by his name and official title as President of the Republic of Indonesia. The reverse shows the face value and the date in the center, framed by a wreath of ears of rice and cotton, traditional symbols of prosperity and well-being in Indonesian national iconography. The specimen features well-defined reliefs, abundant original luster and uniform surfaces with slight contact marks typical of a coin not in circulation, in full accordance with the MS62 grade. This plain-edge variant was minted for circulation in Irian Barat (West New Guinea), a territory whose incorporation into Indonesia culminated in 1962, making this issue an interesting numismatic testimony to the region’s integration process into the Indonesian state.
