Description from the seller
Old Greek icon "Annunciation" from the second half of the 29th century.
The icon is signed and dated by the iconographer as 1884 (see photos).
Hand-painted with egg tempera colors or oil on a wooden panel with a chalk ground. A typical method of icon-making in 18th and 19th century Greece (in imitation of the Russian Orthodox Church).
The motif is relatively rare and very popular in the Orthodox Church.
The painting is executed with relatively high detail (see photos).
Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic craquelure (see photos).
Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos). The saint and the icon are inscribed. The inscriptions are easy to read.
Stable and solid wooden panel, which however has a vertical crack (see photos).
ATTENTION: In the left half of the icon there is a vertical crack. Despite this, the icon is still stable and does not fall apart.
The icon is in good condition with typical signs of aging (see photos).
All details are clearly readable in the photos. Photos are part of the description.
Dimensions: 27x20x2 cm
