Ganesh (Ganapati) and mūṣhika

Lost-wax bronze
Dimensions: 11.5 × 9 × 6 cm
Very beautiful figure of Ganesh represented seated facing forward on a square base, in a stable and hieratic posture. The elephant-headed god displays a generous belly and broad shoulders, emphasized by a rich pectoral necklace, bracelets and a floral-decorated diadem.
The right hand is raised in abhaya mudrā (gesture of protection and assurance), while the left hand holds a sweet ball (modak or laddu), a treat associated with spiritual reward and abundance. At his feet stands the mouse mūśhika, his symbolic mount, turned toward the offering.
The treatment is compact, with full volumes, with fine incisions for the jewelry and drapery. Traces of gold gilt or golden pigments remain in the recesses, contrasting with a dark brown patina,typical of Nepalese votive bronzes intended for domestic use or a small shrine.
This iconography corresponds to the benevolent and protective Ganapati, invoked to ward off obstacles and promote prosperity. The frontal stance, the massive base and the decorative stylization recall a Nepalese artisan production, blending the Newar traditional heritage with devotional manufacture.
