Collection of 16 vintage vinyl records from the 1950s and 1960s, combining a complete Reader’s Digest Background Moods boxed collection with six individual European LPs featuring Italian, Viennese and Spanish music.
Reader’s Digest – Background Moods – 1965
Vintage boxed collection released by Reader’s Digest in 1965, comprising 10 vinyl records featuring a wide variety of orchestral, jazz, blues, Latin, dance and popular music arranged around different moods and atmospheres.
The collection includes selections from:
• In a Moonlight Mood
• In a Haunting Mood
• In a Bewitching Mood
• In a Blues Mood
• In an Intimate Mood
• In a Romantic Mood
• In a Swinging Mood
• In a Latin Mood
• In a Dancing Mood
• In a Festive Mood
• In a Starlight Mood and more
The records remain in their original inner sleeves. The vinyl appears to be in very good vintage condition but has not been tested. The original outer presentation box shows visible age-related wear but remains functional and holds the collection securely.
Collection of 6 Vintage European LPs – 1950s
The lot also includes six vintage records representing Italian, Austrian and Spanish musical traditions of the 1950s.
1. Tony Romano – Love Songs Italiane (1954)
Capitol Records, H-478. Tony Romano performs classic Italian songs including O Sole Mio, Santa Lucia and Torna a Surriento, accompanied by an orchestra conducted by George Greeley.
2. Escale à Rome (1955)
London International, WB 91064. Featuring Manuel De Riva, Roberto Cardinali and Bruna Urbani, with Italian songs and orchestral arrangements evoking the atmosphere of mid-century Rome.
3. Carl Loubé and His Orchestra – O Come to Vienna (1950s)
Parlophone Records, PMD 1048. A collection of traditional Viennese melodies with zither accompaniment by Anton Karas, including Wien, Wien, nur du allein and Radetzky-Marsch.
4. Sara Montiel – La Violetera (1958)
Hispavox. Featuring Spanish actress and singer Sara Montiel performing music associated with her celebrated film La Violetera.
5. Giuseppe Di Stefano – Italian Songs (1950s)
Philips Records, AL3439. The renowned Italian tenor performs traditional favourites including Mille Cherubini In Coro and Non Ti Scordar di Me.
6. Luciano Tajoli at San Remo (1950s)
Parlophone Odeon Records, CPMB 1. Featuring Luciano Tajoli performing songs associated with the Sanremo Music Festival, including Aprite Le Finestre and Due Teste Sul Cuscino.
These six records are vintage 10-inch Long Play records, a format characteristic of the early LP era and increasingly collectible today.
Condition
The six European records are in good vintage condition. The vinyl shows signs of previous use but no significant scratches were observed. The sleeves and covers show age-related wear consistent with records dating from the 1950s.
