Description from the seller

Rider and his horse - Dogon - Mali
In all of Africa, the rider is a complex symbol.

It is the symbol of material power, but also the instrument of martial adventures.

And finally, in a more metaphysical sense, he dominates the mortal and spiritual worlds by displaying his physical and moral strength.

Artistically, the treatment of horses often takes on a heavy and massive expression, the horse's legs remaining generally straight and stiff.

Among the Dogon, the rider is an important theme, which can be categorized according to the numerous attitudes of the rider: cast back, leaning forward, kneeling, arms raised to the sky, holding a bridle, a weapon, and in rarer cases, having a passenger, a gaze perpendicular to that of the mount, or a arm articulated at the shoulder.

Of course, these highly codified dispositions are not gratuitous and refer to a rich symbolism.
