Also the body edges, doors, hood and the joints around the roof look well-kept. The visible parts of the engine bay and the inside of the hood are also neat.

The SLK features the characteristic electrically operated Vario roof, which allows the car to be transformed from a fully closed coupe to an open two-seat roadster in a short time. With the roof up, it forms a full steel coupe construction, making the SLK well suited for use outside the summer season.

Over the years, evident investment has been made in both regular maintenance and preventive and technical work. For example, engine oil, filters, plugs, coolant, Multi-V belt components, suspension parts, tires, brake components and various other wear parts were renewed.

A substantial technical service round was carried out in November 2015, with maintenance tasks on suspension and brakes valued at €1,064.30 and wheel alignment checked.

Shortly before, in September 2015, €598.70 was spent on transmission oil, rear axle oil, diagnostics and cabrio roof/antenna checks.

The cooling system also received attention during ownership. Thermostat and coolant were replaced and later additional cooling system maintenance performed.

In 2016 the air conditioning was checked, refilled and leak-tested. Lighting-related work was also performed.

In 2018 and 2019 there were again extensive maintenance operations including:

INTERIOR:

The interior is finished in 871A black Nappa/semi-aniline leather, a costly factory option compared with the standard trim.

The black interior forms a nice contrast with the Iridium Silver Metallic exterior and presents itself as well-kept. The leather sport seats show minimal normal signs of wear appropriate for age and mileage, but overall look neat and well maintained.

The dashboard, center console, door panels and steering wheel are largely original and in good condition. The R171 interior is characterized by its relatively low seating position, clear round instruments and driver-oriented center console.

The car features a number of attractive comfort options that make a big difference especially when driving with the top down. The most important of these is AIRSCARF (code 403). Air is blown around the neck of the driver and passenger via vents in the headrests, allowing comfortable open-top driving even at lower outside temperatures.
