The term "byeri" denotes not only the ancestor cult, but also the entire ritual and the objects necessary for its proper execution. The statuettes of the Byeri cult represent an ancestor, a man or a woman, from the lineage. They sit atop a long cylinder of bark in which the remains are housed.
