Splendid and monumental art coverlet (also usable as a majestic wall tapestry) in exceptionally heavy jacquard brocade fabric. The piece features a complex and fascinating Oriental-inspired iconography (Chinoiserie/Japonism), rich in finely woven details: female figures in traditional dress (Geisha/Ladies), pavilions, bridges, flowering vases, peacocks and lanterns, framed by bold geometric and floral borders in tones of gold, amethyst purple, and lilac. The piece is finished on 3 sides with a spectacular, very tall and dense artisanal two-tone passamaneria (trim) worked in knots, ending with long twisted fringes. Dimensions total (including trim and fringe): Total width: 260 cm (of which 20 cm per side consist of trim + fringe). The central body of the fabric measures 220 cm. Total length: 274 cm (the fabric measures 254 cm + 20 cm of trim/fringe on the terminal side). Conditions: The central body of the jacquard fabric is in generally very good condition, solid and with vivid and bright colors. Being a vintage piece, it shows small and normal signs of aging on the trim: in particular three points where the fringe weave is loosened or interrupted (as detailed in the photos), easily restorable by skilled hands or left as evidence of the piece’s age. A piece of great visual impact, ideal for eclectic interiors, antique fabric collectors, or lovers of Liberty style and early 20th-century Chinoiserie.
