Description from the seller

A hagiographic icon of Saint Nicholas of Myra (Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker), that is, an icon that combines the central image of the saint with scenes from his life and miracles.

Central figure: Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra.
He appears with a halo, dressed in episcopal regalia.
In one hand he holds the Gospel, and with the other he makes the blessing gesture.
Around him are distributed various narrative scenes from his life,

This format is called in Russian «Житийная икона» (Zhitiynaya ikona), literally an icon of the life, because the peripheral scenes narrate episodes from the saint’s biography and miracles.

His birth.
His religious education.
His consecration as bishop.
The saving of the three innocents condemned to death.
The miracle of the three youths or the three maidens.
The salvation of sailors during a storm.
Various miracles performed after his death.

In terms of composition, the drawing of the scenes, and the overall appearance, it belongs to the Russian tradition—an icon of popular devotion from the 18th–19th centuries.
