Description from the seller
French tapestry in Rococo style – Aubusson / Flanders. This piece made after a classic French model (Aubusson or Beauvais style).
It depicts an idyllic scene with elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen in a garden landscape — typical of Rococo.
Beautiful decorative wall tapestry in the French Rococo style, inspired by the famous designs of the 18th century. The work shows an idyllic rural scene with elegantly dressed ladies and gentlemen in a garden landscape – a typical motif; such scenes, often with rural-romantic or amorous themes, are called “Fêtes galantes.” This piece was made according to a classical French model in Aubusson style.
The tapestry motif is clearly French in style. It belongs to the tradition of the so-called “Aubusson” or “Beauvais Tapestries,” which were very popular in France in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The tapestry was produced in the mid-20th century (about 1950–1980) on a Jacquard loom, presumably in France or Belgium (Aubusson region or Flanders). Such reproductions were made with high craftsmanship and served as a homage to the great French models of the Beauvais and Aubusson manufactories.
The fabric consists of cotton with viscose (rayon), which gives the surface a fine, slightly glossy character. The colors are warm and harmoniously coordinated – pastel tones of pink, beige, ocher, and green dominate the romantic scene.
The border features a classic floral ornament that underlines the elegant overall impression.
Whether as wall decoration, collectible, or classic accent in a historic interior – this tapestry embodies the French art of the 18th century in a charming way and brings an atmosphere of elegance and nostalgia into any room.
