AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Ancient French monetary balance (monetary trebuchet), preserved in its wooden case.
This type of balance was used to check the weight of gold and silver coins in circulation in the different European states.
Inside the lid there is an ancient table printed in French, titled “TABLE des Monnaies d’or et d’argent qui ont cours dans les différens Etats de l’Europe, avec la désignation de leurs poids”, with indications of various European coins and their respective weights.
The set includes the balance with metal frame and two suspended pans, 8 weights/flat metal slugs of different sizes with marks and punches, 4 nestable cup weights, and the wooden case.
No marks, signatures, or indications of the manufacturer were identified.
Likely datable to the second half of the 18th century.
It shows patina, oxidation, wear, and normal signs of age. The suspension wires of the pans show wear and some strands are loose or damaged, as visible in the photographs.
No restorations or substitutions have been made by me.
Closed-case dimensions: about 17.5 × 5.5 × 2 cm. Total weight: about 111 g.
All elements included in the lot are those visible in the photographs. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
