Large Dutch Modernist Counterbalance Desk Lamp, reminiscent of designs by J.J.M. Hoogervorst for ANVIA, circa 1970
The lamp has a beautifully engineered, almost architectural construction. A slender vertical chromed steel stem rises from the flat circular black base and carries a long balancing arm through a substantial black adjustment mechanism. This central joint allows the position of the arm to be altered, changing both the height and reach of the lamp.
At one end, the arm sweeps into an elegant curved chrome section supporting the large hemispherical metal shade. The broad dome gives the lamp considerable presence while directing the light downwards over a generous area.
