Pair of oval frames in soft wood with gold leaf gilding from Italy, dating to the nineteenth century, with two distinct decorative motifs (A and B) and external dimensions Frame A 32.5 × 24.5 cm (internal 28 × 19.5 cm) and Frame B 30 × 24.5 cm (internal 24 × 18 cm), in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Pair of oval frames made of softwood, finely carved and gilded with gold leaf. The two specimens elegantly differ in their decorative motifs.
Frame A (left): Features a smooth, convex profile interrupted at the ends by discreet and elegant geometric and stylized carvings (foliage held in check). Beneath the gilding, a rich red bole preparation appears, visible at points of natural wear over time.
Frame B (right): Characterized by rich detailing in continuous phytomorphic motifs, with a continuous garland of leaves, small fruits and berries finely relief-carved. The gilding shows a deeper, browner patina in the recesses of the carving, creating a strong chiaroscuro effect.
At the back, both frames retain the original wooden structure. Beautiful original patina.
A pair of rare furniture elements to find together, distinguished by their genuine conservation state and the luster of the original gilding. Whether used to frame small paintings or left empty as accent pieces on an art wall, these frames will add a touch of timeless 19th-century elegance to any setting.
