Description from the seller

Side table. Of French inspiration, in the taste of Louis XVI, from the early 20th century, in mahogany and other woods, decorated with inlays and marquetry in holly with floral and vegetal motifs. Rectangular-section top, with straight lines, framed by inlaid fillets, resting on a rectangular-shaped base. The front consists of a top drawer and a lower compartment with a door, both decorated with an elaborate marquetry composition, representing branches, leaves, flowers, and stylized vegetal elements, arranged symmetrically. The fronts feature surrounds and dark-wood fillets, enhancing the decorative composition. The drawer is topped with a central metal pull, while the lower door has fittings also in gilded metal. The sides are veneered in lighter-toned wood, creating contrast with the dark wood structure. The bottom of the case has a slightly curved cut, giving some softness to the composition, in contrast with the predominantly linear character of the piece. It rests on four square-section legs, tapered to the lower end, with a pyramidal profile, a hallmark near the neoclassical and Louis XVI repertoire. The legs are equally decorated with fillets and inlays of lighter wood. The piece evidences the revivalist taste of the early 20th century for the revival of French 18th-century models, combining the architectural sobriety of the Louis XVI style with marquetry decoration inspired by vegetal motifs. Notable are the quality and extent of the inlays, the symmetrical composition of the fronts, the decorative fillets, and the metal Pulls. A piece of furniture that is simultaneously decorative and functional, originally conceived as a bedside table, but also usable as a small side table or auxiliary furniture. Dimensions: 78 x 41 x 32 cm.
