Victorian silver inkstand with cut crystal. England, London, 1862 – Edward Ker Reid. Elegant English inkstand from the Victorian era, executed in English 925 sterling silver, set on a lobed-profile pressed base, richly hand-engraved with exuberant decoration of volutes, foliate motifs, cartouches and vegetal patterns, revealing the high quality of British goldsmithing in the mid-19th century. At the center, a crystal container with thick walls, cut with geometric facets in a diamond pattern, topped by a sober silver cap, creating a harmonious contrast between the crystal’s brilliance and the chiselled silver’s refinement. The base features an elegant six-petal flower design, giving balance and strong decorative presence to the piece. It is stamped with official London marks dated 1862, as well as the mark of the renowned goldsmith Edward Ker Reid, active between 1855 and 1871, guaranteeing authenticity and quality of manufacture. A representative piece of English production from the Victorian period, originally intended for high-status desks and writing cabinets. It now stands as an excellent example for collectors of English silver, writing objects, or classic decor. Condition: Very good overall, with slight signs of use compatible with the piece’s age.
