Friedrich Reusswig - Cruet set - Silver, Crystal

Sterling-silver cruet set 800 and cut crystal – Hanau, Germany. German, Hanau, first quarter of the 20th century, from the workshop of Friedrich Reusswig (active 1903–1926). Table cruet or huilier-vinaigrier in 800/1000 silver, with a pair of crystal-cut and gilded cruets. The base rests on a rectangular polished-surface base, edged by a molded frieze and raised on four spherical feet. In the center, a tall vertical column with smooth and raised sections, lavishly decorated with palmettes, acanthus, volutes and vegetal motifs inspired by neoclassicism, culminating in a large open-work oval wing with facing volutes. On the sides, two circular supports for cruets, formed by molded rings and open-work structures richly decorated in a historicist style, with palmettes, stylized vases, flowers, leaves and scrolls. Between them, a small central circular support. A pair of crystal-clear cruets, thick and faceted, with a faceted body, polygonal base, notched shoulders and necks marked by successive Faceted rings. Gold-painted decoration with fillets, arabesques and vegetal motifs. Large original corks, also in solid faceted crystal, milled to fit and gilded. Marked on the structure with the assay mark “800”, corresponding to silver 800/1000, and a set of characteristic Hanau pseudo-murage marks, including a crowned “R” mark compatible with Friedrich Reusswig. Shows normal signs of age and use, the base having been polished for a more sophisticated presentation. No fractures. Total weight: 2110 grams. Base weight: 985 grams. Dimensions: 32 × 23 × 10.5 cm.
