Beautiful pair of Savonarola walnut thrones, incredibly carved. 19th century. The backrest, the start and end of the armrests, the front and rear feet, and the central crosspiece are all decorated with incredibly hand-carved figures, especially faces and heads, but also other parts with detailed carvings. The Savonarola chair with an X-shaped frame looks from the front or the back, and the name Savonarola derives from the Renaissance Italian Dominican friar Girolamo Savonarola, famous for his clash with tyrannical rulers and a corrupt clergy. An extraordinary piece that adds a unique sense of character, importance, and elegance to any setting. Sold as a pair, in walnut wood, measurements: height 86 cm, width 55 cm, depth 54 cm. It will be professionally packed in two separate parcels because these are fixed, non-disassemblable, or non-foldable thrones.
