Description from the seller
Antique oval wall mirror – Napoleon III / Neobaroque – richly decorated copper surround – circa 1890–1905
Magnificent and highly decorative antique oval wall mirror, presumably dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, around 1890–1905.
The mirror is surrounded by a particularly richly worked, decorative metal frame in patinated copper/brass, executed in the characteristic neobaroque style of the Napoleon III period, with clear Louis XV/Rococo influences.
The frame is lavishly adorned with volutes, acanthus leaves, rocailles and floral ornaments. Especially the openwork ornament at the top and the decorative element at the bottom give the mirror a pronounced antique and monumental character.
The dark patina gained with age creates a beautiful antique bronze appearance and emphasizes the depth of the relief decoration.
The oval mirror glass forms a lovely contrast with the richly decorated frame. Thanks to its relatively compact size, this mirror is excellently suited as a decorative accent in a classical, country, vintage or eclectic interior.
Back side with new board and hanging hook.
Period: ca. 1890–1905
Style: Napoleon III / Neobarok, with Louis XV/Rococo influences
Material: presumably copper or brass on a backing, with natural patina, mirror glass
Dimensions: approx. 65 cm high × 34 cm wide
Type: oval wall mirror
Origin: presumably Western Europe, possibly France/Belgium
Condition: good antique used condition, with normal signs of aging and patina appropriate to age and use.
A characterful and particularly decorative antique piece that is especially attractive to lovers of 19th-century mirrors, Napoleon III interiors and neobaroque decor.
