Digsmed fish-shaped solid teak serving board from Denmark, dating to the 1960s, attributed to JHQ Quistgaard, measuring 34.5 × 22.5 × 2.5 cm and weighing 709 g, in Danish Modern/Scandinavian Modern style and excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Digsmed – sculptural fish-shaped serving board – solid teak – Denmark – the 1960s
A special and highly decorative Danish Mid-Century Modern serving board/plate in the shape of a stylized fish, attributed to the well-known Danish manufacturer Digsmed.
The piece is made from beautifully warm-toned teak and is characterized by the flowing, organic lines that are so typical of Scandinavian design from the 1960s.
The abstract fish form is beautifully worked: the broad, gently curved wooden edge follows the contours of the fish and encloses the recessed serving surface. As a result, the design sits on the boundary between a functional object and a sculptural design piece.
Digsmed was a Danish producer that was especially known in the 1960s and 1970s for high-quality teak objects, including serving boards, bowls, spice mills, turntables, and other table accessories. The company managed to combine functionality with the warm look and organic shapes that made Danish Mid-Century design so beloved internationally.
This fish-shaped model is a much less common design within Digsmed’s production and is also documented on the international vintage-design market as a Digsmed fish-shaped teak plate/bowl from the 1960s.
