Large cabinet Galena specimen on matrix with Sphalerite, Calcite, Quartz and Pyrite from the Trepča Mining Complex in Mitrovica District, Kosovo; weight 2300 g, dimensions about 18 × 14 × 10 cm.
Description from the seller
Large cabinet specimen of Galena with Sphalerite, Calcite, Quartz and Pyrite from the classic Trepča mining district, Kosovo.
The specimen is dominated by large, highly lustrous metallic Galena crystals and intergrown crystal masses, displaying bright silver-grey surfaces, stepped growth patterns and characteristic cleavage features. Several of the Galena crystals are particularly large, giving the specimen a strong three-dimensional appearance.
The Galena is associated with dark Sphalerite, white Calcite and Quartz, together with small brassy Pyrite crystals distributed across the specimen.
The specimen comes from the old Mineral Collection in Denmark and retains its original historical collector's label, reading: “galenit spalerit calcit kvarts pyrit. trepca jugoslavien.”
The historical locality designation “Trepča, Yugoslavia” corresponds to the present-day Trepča Mining Complex in Kosovo.
Weight: 2300 g
Dimensions: approx. 18 × 14 × 10 cm
The specimen is in good overall collector condition. Natural contacts, cleavage and minor edge wear are present, consistent with a large old mineral specimen. No repairs or restoration are known.
The original historical label is included with the specimen. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
