Magnificent oval cameo hand-engraved on a Cassis madagascariensis shell, made by V. Langella, an engraver belonging to the prestigious artistic tradition of Torre del Greco, the world capital of cameo art.

The cameo depicts the profile of Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, of the harvest, of fertility, of festivity and intoxication. In Greek mythology he corresponds to Dionysus, from whom much of his myth and iconography derive.
