Description from the seller
Russian School of the 19th century
Christ among the doctors of the Temple, Tempera on wooden panel, unsigned, 30 x 22 cm.
Fascinating ancient icon painted in tempera on wood panel, depicting the Gospel episode of Christ among the doctors of the Temple. In the center the majestic figure of Jesus as a child seated on an elaborate wooden throne, with the opened book bearing inscriptions in Cyrillic and the blessing hand, surrounded by various erudites, scholars and sacred figures (including the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph in the upper background). The work features inscriptions in ecclesiastical Slavic language and explanatory writings at the top left. On the back of the solid wood panel there are stabilized historic woodworm holes and the dimensions handwritten in pencil (30 x 22).
Please note that, being an antique artwork, there may be slight signs of time, wear and color loss consistent with age and the object’s devotion.
Please note that, being antique art objects, the item shows signs of time and lived devotion that attest to its authenticity and period. All conditions are clearly visible in the photographic gallery.
The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a purely gift from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, due to its fragility, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall-mounting system could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can spoil the work. They can be removed on request at no additional cost. Please let me know if you prefer the work to be sent without it; otherwise I cannot assume responsibility.
Shipping and customs notes
The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
If the package is returned for an incorrect address, unclaimed, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay for a second shipment and cover return costs.
I also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT and customs duties are the buyer’s responsibility and will be collected by the authorities of your country at delivery. I advise you to inform yourself beforehand to avoid surprises. Alternatively, instead of shipping, if you have the possibility, personal pickup in Geneva is still my preferred option and I strongly recommend it, as it will eliminate shipping costs and guarantee maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the painting to protect it during transit.
