The Canon AE-1 (1976) is the camera that made the 35mm SLR a mass-market object. Its microprocessor-controlled shutter-priority automation was a genuine first, and Canon's advertising pushed it into millions of hands — it remains one of the most beloved and recognisable film cameras ever built. Fully usable in manual as well as automatic, it takes the extensive Canon FD lens range and is offered here with the FD 50mm f/1.8 standard lens.

Important — please read carefully:
There is balsam separation in the viewfinder, haze in the lens, and the battery cover is cracked. The camera works and meters accurately. Please review the photos and consider this before bidding.

Appearance
Scuffs and scratches from normal use. Please check the photos for details.

Optical Condition
Haze: Haze in the lens — cleaned internally, a residual haze remains. See photos.
Finder: Balsam separation in the viewfinder optics — visible as a patch when looking through the finder.

Functional
The camera operates properly — see the measured shutter figures below (1/1 at 1s, 1/58 at 1/60, 1/950 at 1/1000 — all close to spec).
The meter is accurate: about +0.4 EV at EV12 and -0.4 EV at EV15. Shutter-priority automatic exposure works.
The battery compartment cover is cracked but still holds the battery in place (see photos).
The viewfinder and lens have been cleaned internally and the light seals replaced.

Measured Performance
We check these cameras on a shutter tester rather than by ear, and we publish what we measured:
- 1 s — measured 1/1 s (on the mark)
- 1/60 — measured 1/58 s (on the mark)
- 1/1000 — measured 1/950 s (approx. 0.1 stop slow)
- Light meter accuracy — EV12: 0.4 OVER / EV15: 0.4 UNDER
Negative film has enough latitude to absorb deviations of this size, but the figures are here so you can judge for yourself.

Servicing
This camera was serviced by us before listing:
- Viewfinder cleaned internally
- Lens cleaned internally
- Light seals (foam) replaced

Known Issues
1. Balsam separation in the viewfinder optics — a patch is visible when composing. It does not affect the recorded image.
2. Residual haze in the FD 50mm f/1.8 after cleaning — expect some loss of contrast against strong light.
3. The battery compartment cover is cracked. It still closes and retains the battery, but is not intact.

We ship via either FedEx or Japan Post (ePacket), whichever suits the destination and the parcel. With Japan Post your package is handed over to the local postal carrier in your country for final delivery.

Parcels are shipped DDU (Delivered Duty Unpaid): import VAT and any customs duties are collected by customs or the carrier on delivery, in accordance with the rules of the destination country.
