Table/desk clock - Antieke Franse figuurklok- Jager te paard met jachthonden - Brass, Marble, Porcelain - 1960-1970

A wonderfully atmospheric antique showpiece: a French mantels clock in the classic Napoleon III / Louis XV style, with a vividly depicted hunting scene.

On top of the clock, a rider on horseback leaps over a rocky outcrop, flanked by two alert greyhounds among lush foliage. The clock case itself is richly adorned with acanthus leaves, graceful volutes and a broken grille motif — characteristic of French decorative art from this period. The clock rests on a veined marble pedestal, which forms a beautiful contrast with the gilded spelter (zinc alloy) upperwork. The dial features Roman numerals on handsome white porcelain cartouches, surrounded by a decorative edge with foliate motifs.

Over the years the object has acquired an authentic, warm patina — signs of time that only strengthen the character and history of this piece. A true eye-catcher on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or in a classically furnished room.
