Description from the seller
Gilded silver miniature box in the shape of a pumpkin – late 19th / early 20th century
Elegant and refined miniature box made of silver with a gold interior, crafted in a charming stylized pumpkin shape, a typology highly valued within European decorative arts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The lid features an extraordinary sculptural relief with a naturalistic composition of leaves and an ornamental bird, while the body develops a richly artistic vegetal relief. The interior preserves an attractive gold finish that provides contrast and refinement.
During the Historicist period and Art Nouveau, small decorative boxes inspired by natural elements — fruits, vegetables, flowers and animals — were particularly popular, intended to hold small personal items, jewelry, sweets, perfumes or powders.
In style and artistic execution it can be attributed to European continental production, circa 1880–1910.
Measurements:
• Length: 6 cm
• Width: 3.5 cm
• Height: 3.5 cm
• Weight: 39 g
Material: silver with gold interior
Period: late 19th – early 20th century
Very good overall condition.
A highly decorative and elegant collectible piece.
