Description from the seller
Elegant French jug/cruet fashioned in carved crystal and 950/1000 French silver, France, late 19th century.
Magnificent piece of French precious metalwork and artistic glass, executed in fine hand-engraved crystal with floral and spiral decoration, accompanied by an extraordinary mounting in solid silver in the late Art Nouveau / Napoleon III style.
The silver mount features refined chiseling work with vegetal motifs, volutes and relief floral decoration, typical of high French precious metalwork from the late 19th century. The handle presents an elegant sculptural form of great ornamental richness.
The piece retains original French hallmarks:
- Minerva head,
- corresponding to 950/1000 fineness,
- as well as additional marks of the master French goldsmith.
The blown and cut crystal retains excellent clarity and a deeply hand-worked decoration.
A decorative and functional piece originally intended to serve wine, liqueur, or water at aristocratic and bourgeois tables of the French Belle Époque.
Total weight: 496 grams.
Measurements:
Height: 23.5 cm.
Length: 10 cm.
Width: 8 cm.
Condition: very good for its age, with slight signs of use and patina appropriate to the era.
An elegant 19th-century French collectible piece, ideal for collectors of silver, artistic crystal, and European luxury items.
