Samba Samba Brasil” is a collection of photographs by Jun Miki, one of Japan's leading photographers. Born in Okayama Prefecture in 1919, Jun Miki was mentored by Yusaku Kamekura when he was a student at Keio University and worked as an assistant to Ken Domon. After the war, he interacted with Yonosuke Natori and others, and from the 1950s onward, he worked for Life magazine, which was a coveted journalist's publication. His portrait of Prime Minister Shigeru Yoshida at the signing of the San Francisco Peace Treaty, complete with cigar, is one of Miki's masterpieces, which also graced the cover of Life magazine. Miki continued to work as a freelance news photographer, and also served as a professor at Nihon University College of Art, and as president of the Japan Professional Photographers Society. This book is a collection of his work published in the 1960s on the theme of “Brazil. The numerous illustrations taken with the Nikon, a camera synonymous with Miki's work, remind one of Magnum Photos photographer René Burri, who also published “Brasilia,” a collection of works based on the region, and the book is a fascinating collection of snapshots and portraits that are rich in formative beauty and humanism.
