Danish Mid-Century Modern table set – pepper mill, cocktail pick holder & salt bowl – rosewood – Made in Denmark – circa 1950s/60s - possibly by Lauritz Lønborg

A particularly handsome three-piece Danish table set from the Mid-Century Modern period, consisting of a hand-cranked pepper mill, a holder for cocktail picks, and a matching salt bowl.

The three objects are crafted in beautifully warm dark wood, presumably palisander (rosewood) or a comparable tropical hardwood, and form a remarkably decorative whole through their organic shapes and matching wood color. A characteristic example of the functional yet elegant Danish Modern design from the 1950s–1960s.

At the center of the set is the splendid pepper mill. The almost hourglass-shaped wooden housing features a graceful sculptural line and a lively natural grain. On top sits a characteristic brass hand crank, whose naturally aged patina beautifully contrasts with the warm wood.

Next to the central grinding mechanism is a separate opening for the pepper corns. The metal grinding mechanism on the underside is marked:

“MADE IN DENMARK”

This confirms the Danish origin of the pepper mill. The grinding mechanism is clean, operates smoothly and functions properly.

Accompanying the mill are two beautifully designed table accessories in similar dark palisander wood:

Cocktail pick holder – a compact, rounded wooden object in which the wooden picks are decoratively stood upright. A typical playful yet functional detail from Scandinavian tableware of this period.

Salt bowl – a low, open wooden dish with a nicely rounded and lightly faceted exterior. The deep dark interior and the lovely wood grain give the piece a particularly luxurious appearance. It can also be used as a small condiment or serving bowl.

The combination of organically turned wood, brass and simple functional forms gives the set a distinct Scandinavian character. Individually or together, the three objects are particularly decorative on a vintage, modern or Scandinavian table.

The design shows similarities to Danish table accessories and hand-crank pepper mills from this period, including models offered in the spirit of Laurids Lønborg. Because no individual designer or factory marking was found, the set is intentionally not definitively attributed to a single designer.
