Description from the seller

The Virgin Mary appears in the center, full-length, with her hands in an intercessory gesture. She is surrounded by afflicted or needy figures, who represent those seeking her aid. On either side appear angels, mediators of help and divine protection. In the upper part one can discern a celestial image, today very deteriorated. The background with stylized vegetal motifs and the composition conform to the Russian iconographic tradition. This devotion expresses a idea deeply connected to Orthodox spirituality: Mary as consolation, shelter, and joy for all who suffer. The Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” (Consolation of the Afflicted), with angels and figures of the needy. An icon of Russian tradition.
