“4-ku Passage,” a photo book by Daido Moriyama, one of Japan’s leading photographers. After working as an assistant to Takeji Iwamiya and then to Eikoh Hosoe, he became a freelance photographer. He began exhibiting his work in the mid-1960s and has published numerous photo books since then. Works such as *Nippon Theater Photo Album*, *Goodbye Photography*, *The Hunter*, *Mayfly*, and *Light and Shadow* are regarded as masterpieces that continue to be discussed to this day. With his high-contrast, impactful black-and-white images; abstract expressions achieved through blur and bokeh; a subtle sense of eros; and a deep, human warmth, the work of this master of street photography—who continued to shoot everywhere in the city—is so rich in originality that it is instantly recognizable as Daido Moriyama’s. This book consists of Polaroid photographs taken between 1998 and 1999 in the “four districts” of Nakano, Suginami, Musashino, and Koganei.
