Here Is New York is a photo book and exhibition that emerged shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The project was set up by Gilles Peress, Michael Shulan, Alice Rose George and Charles Traub. Everyone— from professional photographers to everyday citizens — could submit photos. The result is a beautiful collection of images that show the impact of 9/11 from many perspectives.
The book contains hundreds of photos without captions, to treat all images equally. The proceeds went to victim assistance. The project grew into a globally exhibited homage to collective memory and visual solidarity.
