It acts as a gravity valve: ash slides inside and the smoke remains trapped in the base, eliminating bad odors.

Top body flares outward in solid satin aluminum, turned; bottom base lacquered in a beautiful, characteristic mustard/ochre yellow.

The item is original to the era and presents in good vintage condition.

The aluminum body and glass knob are intact.
