Icon - Wood - The Sacred Cross

In the center appears the great Cross, the true axis of the entire composition. On both sides are depicted:

Jesus Christ, on the left, with a cruciform halo.
The Virgin Mary, on the right, represented as Queen of Heaven and crowned.

Both seem to hold or present the Cross, emphasizing its meaning as the instrument of Redemption.

At the top one can see a celestial figure blessing.

“The Holy and Life-giving Cross of the Lord” or “The Exaltation / Veneration of the Precious Cross.”

It is an icon of Russian devotional character, from the 18th–19th centuries.
The piece has a particularly interesting iconography because it presents Christ and the Mother of God as witnesses and worshippers of the Cross, turning it into the true theological center of the image.
