William Morris (Walthamstow, March 24, 1834 – London, October 3, 1896) was a British artist and writer.

Strawberry Thief reproduces one of William Morris’s most recognizable designs and, in our opinion, is also the most iconic artwork in Arts and Crafts style. He originally created the tapestry after watching birds stealing strawberries from the garden of his home in Gloucestershire, Kelmscott Manor.

Morris was among the leading founders of the Arts and Crafts movement; he is considered a pioneer of modern designers and had a significant influence on the architecture and architects of his time.

Many regard him as the father of the Modern Movement, although he was not an architect himself.
He founded a design studio in collaboration with the artist Edward Burne-Jones and the poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who deeply influenced church and house decoration in the twentieth century.
He also contributed importantly to the revival of traditional textile arts and the associated production methods.
