Neolithic hand axe (7,000–4,000 BC) from Niger, set in silver metal and linked to a modern 925 sterling silver cord-style chain.

This axe is made from fine-grained, strongly cemented lithic sandstone, which provides this piece with the necessary resistance to withstand impacts, crush, cut wood, or process animal remains. It bears a large number of small black fragments of preexisting rocks in the area, possibly of volcanic or metamorphic origin.
