This antique secretaire cabinet is executed in the Biedermeier style, a popular European interior and art style from approximately 1815–1848. Although furniture from this stylistic period is generally tidy and functional in design, this particular piece is a luxury late-Biedermeier variant (often recognizable by the transition to neo-styles, such as neo-Rococo).

The striking, richly carved crown: The undulating wooden top with floral motifs is typical of the more decorative display cabinets from the late Biedermeier period.

The cabinet features symmetrical veneer work: The panels on both the writing slide and the lower doors show beautifully mirrored wood veneer (often flame mahogany or walnut burl), which brings the natural figuring of the wood forward in a very symmetric way.

The contoured panels: The flowing ornamental moldings around the panels give the cabinet an elegant, chic appearance that softens the clean, basic shape.
