Description from the seller
HERMITAGE 2020 - YANN CHAVE
The Domaine Yann Chave is located in the municipality of Mercurol and extends over 18 hectares within the Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage appellations. Yann Chave, whom his parents wanted to pull away from farming life by pushing him to undertake long studies, quickly returned to the family estate in 1996, abandoning a career in banking to live from his passion for wine. After being exposed to an insecticide treatment, he sought an alternative path and began organic farming in the early 2000s. The estate was certified in 2007. The wines of the estate have reached a high level, exude a lot of personality, and deliver a beautiful interpretation of the terroir, especially on its unique plot planted on the mythical hill of the Hermitage.
About the vintage
The Hermitage represents only 1.2 ha of the property. These 25-year-old vineyards are located in Beaume and Péléat, on a southwest-facing loess soil. Vinification is distinguished from Crozes-Hermitage by a longer fermentation (3 to 4 weeks). It is carried out in the gentlest possible way, with temperatures not exceeding 28°C. After pressing, the wines are transferred into new demi-muids, where they will undergo malolactic fermentation. Aging in these containers will last a year, which is well suited to the syrah since the wine is not excessively woody. After this aging phase, the wines remain in tank for another six months in order to rack them naturally before bottling.
