Gorham sterling silver (92.5%) two-piece butter dish set from the USA, dating to 1892 with full STERLING marks and model number 3930G, comprising a matching underplate with a beaded edge and a polished serving dome, weighing 154 g and measuring 13 × 9 × 8 cm, in good condition with natural age patina.
Description from the seller
An exquisite ensemble of late 19th-century American high society tableware. It is a classic Victorian butter dish consisting of an elegant underplate with a continuous pearl-edge decoration and a precisely fitting, highly polished food dome.
- Hallmark:
Fully documented and museum-grade hallmarked. The underside bears the official guarantee mark “STERLING” (finest 925/1000 solid silver) and the factory model number “3930G.” A superb collector’s feature is the historically exact year code (Date Code) of Gorham: the engraved crescent moon (with an integrated moon face) dating the piece precisely to the year 1892. Origin: USA. Crafted by the legendary Gorham Manufacturing Company (Providence, Rhode Island) – the most historically significant royal/worthy supplier to the White House and American elite of the era.
- Auction history:
From a well-kept private collection.
- Defects and damage on the object:
Excellent, authentic antique condition. The set shows no structural damage, deep dents, deformations, or after-market repairs. The surface displays a fine, even patina and micro-dust traces that underscore its character and genuine age of over 130 years. The hallmarks are clearly legible, and the fine year-code is gently worn due to historical handling. Notably, the rare completeness of the two-piece original ensemble is highlighted.
Weight: 154 grams (solid sterling silver)
Shipping and insurance:
Shipping is arranged as a valuable collector’s item in a specialized package, fully insured and with uninterrupted tracking.
