AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A very imposing and exceptionally heavy antique Chinoiserie jardinière / cachepot from the second half of the 19th century.
This monumental ornamental vessel is made from a thick, solid copper alloy (bronze/brass) and weighs no less than 4.5 kilograms, testament to the high-quality casting of the period.
The pot features a classic bombé shape with an elegantly flared rim and rests on a wide base ring. The absolute eye-catchers are the two monumental handles, skillfully formed as detailed elephant heads. The long, gracefully curved trunks flow smoothly into the body of the vessel.
In the Chinoiserie style, elephants symbolized strength, wisdom and fortune.
The interior shows a beautifully patinated character with authentic oxidation marks (verdigris).
The underside was hand-flatted on a lathe in the 19th century, in keeping with the historical production method of this type of European decorative vessels; the heavy handles are mounted to the pot with solid, handmade rivets.
A beautiful, characterful interior piece with a deep, dark patina.
Perfect for presenting large houseplants in a classic, eclectic, or worldly interior.
Jardinière / Cachepot / Chinoiserie 19th century (ca. 1870-1900)
Made from bronze and manufactured in France
In good, authentic antique condition with a splendid natural patina and signs of age (see photos for a full impression of the interior and patina).
Equipped with a few light dents/use marks.

The lot will be sent by registered mail.
