Ewer - Copper

A finely worked Tibetan/Himalayan ceremonial ewer, probably dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900. The form and mixed-metal construction are closely comparable with documented 19th-century Tibetan copper and brass ewers.

The vessel combines a patinated copper body with brass and white-metal mounts, richly decorated with chased and repoussé floral scrollwork. It has a tall domed cover with foliate finial, an elegant upward-curving spout emerging from a stylised mythical-beast terminal, and an elaborate zoomorphic handle. Similar Himalayan examples were made as ceremonial or tea ewers.

Condition
Overall in very good antique condition, with attractive age-related patina and minor wear. There is a tiny hole to the cover finial. The retaining chain has detached from the finial end, although the chain itself is present and should be straightforward to repair.
