Decoration and Mount
The body of the jug is richly decorated with relief-applied cartouches containing refined, winged putti (angel heads) and stylized floral rosettes.
The upper and lower ends are firmly accented by a deeply incised, geometric radel ornament (Kerbschnitt), which creates a strong contrast with the deep cobalt-blue fields.
The original tin hinged lid features a profiled baluster knob and a thumb rest with authentic patina.
On top of the lid is the historic hand engraving with the initials J.H.W. and the year 1765, referring to the original 18th-century owner.
Inside the lid are visible the original turning rings of the tin smith, and the unglazed base shows the classic concentric trimming marks from the potter’s wheel.
Condition
The object is in exceptionally beautiful, intact condition.
The applied reliefs remain sharp and the salt glaze has an excellent luster. There are no hairlines, missing shards, or later restorations.
