Rare antique Indian window shutters made of hardwood and iron
Description
For auction comes an extraordinary and very rare antique collectible from the 18th/19th century: A pair of original Indian window shutters (two-wing system).
These impressive architectural elements were traditionally handmade from robust Indian solid wood (hardwood/teak-type) and fitted with solid, forged iron fittings, decorative bands, and the original iron bolt. The surface shows a fascinating, authentic patina with wonderful wood grain impressions and historical signs of use that tell a centuries-old story.
Cultural background & feature:
Due to the extreme climatic conditions and high heat in many regions of India, window openings in traditional homes (havelis) were often intentionally kept very small. They primarily served to regulate air circulation, light, and privacy rather than to display glass.
Today, such well-preserved, small shutters in original condition are hardly to be found, and in the West they are in high demand as exclusive wall decorations, historical objects, or for creative DIY mirror projects. A beautiful and characterful gift for lovers of Asian antiques, curiosities, and discerning collectors.
