Monumental vintage French glass serving platter by Verlys, signed “Verlys France” on the rim.
This spectacular piece is distinguished by its exceptionally generous proportions and highly sculptural design. The broad oval centre is finished in softly frosted glass, creating an elegant satin surface, while the elaborate openwork border is composed of overlapping shell and fan motifs in beautifully moulded clear glass. The contrast between the luminous transparent ornamentation and the restrained frosted centre gives the platter remarkable depth, brilliance and visual presence.
Inspired by the natural world, the rhythmic arrangement of stylised shells creates a graceful sense of movement and reflects the refined decorative artistry for which Verlys is celebrated. Its impressive scale makes it ideal as a statement table centrepiece, fruit or dessert platter, or a highly decorative display object.
The platter remains in beautiful vintage condition overall, with light surface scratches, rubbing and other discreet traces of time. There is one visible restauration at the junction between the inner rim and one section of the openwork shell border, clearly shown in the close-up photograph.
